The Battle of Adyar

NOW

BEFORE

The Battle of Adyar River (7 November 1746) --- Till Date

This is not about the Daily Traffic Battle and Mosquito Battle that we now face near Adyar River, Actually there was a real Battle that took place on the either banks of Adyar River... Funny Ri8.

The Story goes This way.... British and French were like peeping into Chennai just like our Software companies doing now, As always one company wanted to kick other's butt using our Indian workers is a known fact, You wonder where this tradition is from the answer THE BATTLE OF ADYAR, fought between October and November 1746 7th november Being the last date for submitting the applications oops sorry last date of the war, it was fought between Frech -led Indian sipahis and thousands of forces of British with Nawab of Arcot (The Traitor) . Unlike our Present day Captians movie (one bullet killing two persons) the French won the Battle because they were disciplined and had cannons from which the British learned a lot. But then british rolled up their slevees and came kicking back to washout french (Thats an another Issue but)

But the Grimm turth is that once a Adyar Forest department reporting 50 Species of Birds in the Scantuary with a sport of Bird Watching on top of Old Elphinstone Brige 1840, could you ever image how it is now and what was it before. That bridge now blocked at both ends by a jungle overgrown with wild vegetation nourished by the public latrine it is used as, is what the optimists hope can be developed into a beautiful promenade with small parks at both ends, seating arrangements and facilities for bird watching. (Dreaming is still free, isn't it?)

The Battle of Adyar is Still to be Fought.....
